St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery was established in 1858. It is maintained and supported by the Parishes of St. Boniface (Scipio) and St. Therese (Richmond), and by everyone who has purchased lots or who have loved ones buried in the Cemetery.
A plaque on the East side of the Crucifix in the middle of the Cemetery has an inscription that reads:
"Least we forget.....this monument stands in the exact location of the High Altar in the original St. Boniface Church built in 1858 and later destroyed in a prairie fire."
Some time around 1869 a fire severely damaged many of the wooden crosses that marked the graves, and they were lost in the fire. Around 1920 the Cemetery expanded, and over time, further expansions were necessary in 1979 and 1991. The Altar of the Crucifixion Group on the West side of the Cemetery was erected in 1962. The Cemetery road was paved in 2010, and a new stone Entrance Gate was added in 2012.
